Bethesda Health is pleased to announce the opening of The Bethesda Orthopaedic Institute, under the direction of world-renowned orthopedic surgeon, Robert B. Zann, M.D. Located on the 4th floor of the Hospital, this world-class institute offers a specialty trained orthopaedic nursing and rehabilitation staff; 24 all private patient rooms; a state-of-the-art-rehabilitation gym and a private dining room for patients.
While Bethesda Health has always offered general and specialized orthopaedic surgery, the move to build the Bethesda Orthopaedic Institute comes in response to the growing needs of an aging population in South Palm Beach County, the 3rd fastest growing area in Florida. As reported in the September 2009 issue of Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, the over-65 population will double to 16% of the U.S. population by 2020. In addition, total hip and total knee replacements have risen 22% and 63%, respectively, since 2000.
State-of-the-art, orthopaedic procedures at The Bethesda Orthopaedic Institute will include:
- Joint Reconstructive Surgery
- Minimally Invasive Surgery
- Hands/Upper Extremities Surgery
- Foot/Ankle Surgery
- Sports Medicine
- Specialized Fracture Program
- Comprehensive Inpatient and Outpatient Rehabilitation
"The Bethesda Orthopaedic Institute is the perfect complement to the continuum of Bethesda’s existing service lines that include the Cornell Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine, a 28-bed, inpatient rehabilitation facility, and our outpatient rehabilitation programs, as well as our newest addition of Bethesda’s Podiatry Residency Program, which started July 1, 2010,” said Robert B. Hill, President and CEO of Bethesda Health.
“We are giving our patients the highest quality of orthopedic care to help them reach their goals of enjoying their lives once again,” Hill added.
According to Robert Zann, M.D., the Institute’s Medical Director, the Institute will utilize dedicated team approach that uses documented and published benchmarks, sustained by clinical quality practice and service. “It’s about ensuring that we’ve taken every step to see that our patients are able to get their lives back and have the best quality of life,” said Dr. Zann. “We care for patients with a total team approach to help our patients get back to living active lifestyles,” Dr. Zann added.
